"Butterfly Garden"- Copper Patina Mixed Media

As an artist, there is something profoundly exhilarating about revealing a new piece that has consumed both your imagination and your hands. Today, I have the pleasure of introducing "Butterfly Garden," my latest creation. This sizeable artwork measures 30 x 72 inches and is crafted using copper patina—a medium that breathes life into metal with surprising vibrancy.
"Butterfly Garden" is a mixed media piece that tells a story through its entwining metal leaves and vines. Each leaf is deliberately cut and stylized in the form of maple leaves. These leaves, with their metallic sheen, dance in shades of green, copper, and brown, casting reflections that shift with the changing light. It is as if the leaves are alive, whispering secrets from their own world.

The backdrop of this piece is not to be overlooked. The textured surface swirls with patches of turquoise and teal, providing an organic quality that invites viewers to lose themselves in its flows. It's this background that marries the entire artwork together, enhancing the natural elements of the metallic vines and leaves, making them part of a larger, pulsing garden.

Creating "Butterfly Garden" was a journey unique unto itself. This particular piece was born from a client commission, a collaboration of ideas and vision. The choice of mixed media allowed for a layering of depth and texture, challenging and delighting me at each twist and turn of the creative process. Engaging with copper patina brought its own surprises as colors emerged unpredictably, demanding spontaneity and adaptability.

"Butterfly Garden" stands as a testament to the beauty of organic forms and the potential of mixed media to encapsulate the essence of a lush, lively garden cast in metal. I hope it inspires viewers to find their own narratives within its complex, beautiful chaos. The marriage of client inspiration and artistic exploration has, I believe, resulted in an artwork that resonates with vitality and natural beauty.
