Copper Patina Large Bird Art

A gentleman from Maui contacted me about doing a 3’x4’ copper mural of his roosters. I had never done feathered friends before but found the idea very interesting and I am always up for a copper challenge. Commission works offers me a wonderful chance to think outside of my box. Thankfully people are willing to give me that opportunity. :-)

What I came to realize is, copper patina makes gorgeous feathers. The colors are so stunning. The other dilemma, I will call it, is how to make the feathers lay flat. I finally decided to do an epoxy pour on it in order to cover the feathers. It took 2 pours but ended up solving my dilemma and the entire piece of copper wall art of the roosters, turned out beautifully. Can’t wait to see a pic from the client once he hangs it.

This piece inspired me to begin a series on tropical and colorful copper patina birds. Working now on a blue and yellow McCaw. The feathers are tedious but so worth the extra time in the end.
